“Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery
We love an adventurous bride who knows what she wants, and Laura was exactly that! We all traveled many hours by plane and car to reach her dream photo destinations: Big Bend National Park and the Gage Hotel – and it was well worth the effort. Laura wanted to include boudoir images to gift to her groom; along with a stunning scenic backdrop for her bridal portraits. We started with boudoir at the Gage, incorporating some beautiful lace elements to add romance to the rustic setting. I love the soft tones and textures of the hotel walls and doors.
After the boudoir, we loaded up the car for a couple hours drive into Big Bend National Park, being careful to time our arrival for the perfect light of the setting sun. As any adventurous bride must be willing to do, Laura was happy to hike a bit to the location we had scouted the day before – a stunning place overlooking a view called, The Window. Her gown was a perfect choice for this adventure – she chose a beautiful Martina Liana low backed gown with fabric that had some stretch and did not wrinkle (who knew there was such a thing in wedding gowns?!). The stretch and flexibility of the gown was also important since she planned to ride her horse to the ceremony on wedding day!
The light was perfect the day of our shoot, and after a little over an hour of beautiful captures, we headed back towards the hotel. Little did we know one more adventure was in our path… border patrol stopped us, and then proceeded to search every corner of our car (a rental from Midland airport) – certainly a new experience for all of us, but the officers were very polite and careful with handling our photo gear and Laura’s wedding gown. Before too long, they were satisfied that we carried no contraband and sent us on our way!
We love a good photo adventure, as a Big Bend photographer, it’s easy to find stunning backdrops in this magical place!
